8 december - Christmas quiz

I made a small Christmas quiz for the earlier-mentioned Christmas party with church. Here are the questions - who has a clue? Answers to follow in a few days!

1.      Glögg is red wine, sometimes de-alcoholised, that has been given a special taste with several  spices. Write down two spices that are common in glögg.
2.      On December 13th, the Swedes celebrate Sankta Lucia, Saint Lucy, which is a very special holiday with a lot of candles. In some way it is surprising that the Swedes celebrate a saint, as that isn’t very common in Swedish culture. Saint Lucy isn’t Swedish either. Where did she live?
3.      On Lucia Day, you’re supposed to eat lussekatter or lussebuller, buns with a yellow color. You decide to make your own lussekatter. You have bought yeast, butter, sugar, milk, salt, flower, raisins and eggs. What have you forgotten?
4.      Write the next line of the song: “God rest ye merry gentlemen, let nothing you dismay”
5.      The sale of which popular, non-alcoholic drink, goes down with 50% in Sweden during the month of December, while the sale goes up in virtually every other country?
6.      In the second chapter of the gospel of Luke and also of Matthew, the writers tells about the Wise men that came to visit Jesus in the stable. How many wise men were they?
7.      But in fact, we shouldn’t be talking all about Christmas yet – it’s Advent after all. In church we read in this period about how the birth of now only Jesus but also John the Baptist is announced. What is the name of the mother of John the Baptist?
8.      Swedish Christmas starts on December 24th and it’s at the end of the afternoon or the beginning of the evening the presents can be opened. To make the time go faster, many children watch a tv program that has been sent since 1960. Which character is most central in this tv program?
